Corrections policy

Our corrections policy explains how to report an error and how we fix it.

If you believe a page is wrong, email info@lawtopolis.com with the page address and the primary source that shows the error.

We review every report. When we change a substantive point, we update the page, refresh its review date and add a dated correction note at the end of the page.

Overview

How the corrections policy works

Our corrections policy is simple. If you think a page is wrong, tell us. First, send the page address. Next, send the primary source that shows the error, such as the rule, statute or decision.

Then we check the report against the official text. If the page is wrong, we fix it and update its review date. In addition, we correct the same point anywhere else it appears on the site.

We take every report seriously. However, we change a page only when the source supports the change.

You can find most federal sources on the federal judiciary website or in the United States Code. For state law, our state procedures guide links to each state’s official rules.

When a correction changes the meaning of a page, we also review the pages that link to it. As a result, one fix does not leave an old version of the same point somewhere else.

Reports about other people, such as a review in the directory, follow a separate process. In that case, use the report link on the review itself, and our moderators will look at it.

Corrections policy — a magnifying glass over legal documents

Lawtopolis provides legal information and education, not legal advice. Using this site does not create an attorney-client relationship. Laws and court rules vary by jurisdiction and change over time; verify every authority against the official source and consult a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction about your situation.
