Terms of use

Terms of use

These terms of use set the rules for using Lawtopolis, its templates and its professional directory.

Information, not advice

Lawtopolis provides legal information and education. It is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. Using the site, buying a template or contacting a listed professional through the site does not create an attorney-client relationship with Lawtopolis.

Accounts

Member accounts are free. You are responsible for keeping your login secure and for the accuracy of what you post. One person, one account.

Professional listings

Professionals who list in the directory agree to the Provider Guidelines. A listing is a paid placement for a fixed term; it does not buy ratings, reviews or verification.

Templates

Templates are licensed for your own use in your own matters. They are blank or annotated educational documents; you are responsible for the content you add and for meeting your court’s rules.

Reviews and content you post

Reviews must describe your genuine experience. We may remove content that is false, abusive, discloses private information or breaks these terms.

Education and consultation sessions

Lawtopolis offers one-on-one education and consultation sessions about how legal processes, rules, documents and research methods work. Sessions are education only. They are not legal advice, do not create an attorney-client relationship, and are not a substitute for a licensed attorney. We do not evaluate the facts of your matter, recommend what to file or argue, draft or review documents for filing, predict outcomes, or represent anyone. Communications in a session are not privileged.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date of the latest version appears below.

Overview

The terms of use in brief

These terms of use cover everything you do on Lawtopolis. First and most important, the site provides legal information and education. It does not provide legal advice, and using it does not create an attorney-client relationship.

Next, the terms explain accounts, purchases and the directory. For example, templates are licensed for use in your own matters. Likewise, directory listings must follow our provider guidelines, and reviews must reflect real experiences.

In addition, the terms explain your responsibilities. For instance, you keep your login secure, you use one account, and we may remove content that is false, abusive or breaks the terms.

Please read the full terms below. If anything is unclear, contact us. For general consumer guidance about online purchases, the FTC consumer advice site is a helpful resource.

Terms of use — two people signing an agreement

Lawtopolis provides legal information and education, not legal advice. Using this site does not create an attorney-client relationship. Laws and court rules vary by jurisdiction and change over time; verify every authority against the official source and consult a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction about your situation.
