Description

The Discovery Tracking Log is a case organizer from Lawtopolis. Two tables — discovery served and discovery received — with columns for the type of request, set number, the party, date and method of service, the response due date, the date of the response, and notes for follow-up or meet-and-confer.

What is in the discovery tracking log

Your download includes these files:

  • Discovery Tracking Log (DOCX)

Each file is editable, so you can type your own information straight into it. In addition, every template is general and is not tied to any one court.

How to use the discovery tracking log

Add a row for every set of interrogatories, document requests, requests for admission, deposition notices and subpoenas. Note that unanswered requests for admission can be treated as admitted after 30 days in federal court (FRCP 36(a)(3)).

First, read your court’s rules so you know what the finished document must contain. Next, fill in your own information. Then compare the result with the rules one more time before you file or serve anything.

Check your court’s rules first

Courts set their own formatting and filing rules. For example, they may set margins, font size, line spacing and page limits. Also, many courts publish their own mandatory forms, and you must use those where they exist. Federal rules are available from the federal judiciary. For state courts, start with our state procedures guide.
