Description

What is in the table of authorities template
Your download includes these files:
- Table of Contents & Authorities (DOCX)
Each file is editable, so you can type your own information straight into it. In addition, every template is general and is not tied to any one court.
How to use the table of authorities template
List the headings and authorities from your own finished brief and add the page numbers last. Many courts require these tables for briefs over a set length; check your court’s rules (for federal appeals, FRAP 28).
First, read your court’s rules so you know what the finished document must contain. Next, fill in your own information. Then compare the result with the rules one more time before you file or serve anything.
Check your court’s rules first
Courts set their own formatting and filing rules. For example, they may set margins, font size, line spacing and page limits. Also, many courts publish their own mandatory forms, and you must use those where they exist. Federal rules are available from the federal judiciary. For state courts, start with our state procedures guide.
